~The Sound of Silence~

Mad Dash by Jan Steinle

" It's a reminder to me to stop and smell the roses"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was standing in my kitchen the other day and for the first time I realized my kitchen clock over my stove has a rather loud tick to it. I never noticed that before in all the years it's been hanging on the wall. That moment in time made me pause - if I haven't heard this sound in my own home, daily, what else am I missing? Seems minor writing about it now, but at the time, it really made me pause. I started to think how we do so many daily tasks without focus because we're so accustomed to going through the same motions day after day.
The clock that I do hear everyday, on the hour, is the bird clock that is in my den. It was the last thing left at my parents house of 45 years when we were done liquidating it. The one and only thing left in their home. My Dad is a bird lover and every hour, a different bird's tweet sounds off.
When I brought home the clock, it took a minute to get used to the noise. I realized how attached I was to it when my son was moving out and he mentioned taking it with him. At that point I said no, but maybe some day. The clock is a special momento to me and I will always cherish it. Reminds me of the beloved home I grew up in and all the great memories I hold near and dear to my heart.
Next time you're in a hurry, stop and smell the roses! The actually smell quite sweet!
Best Wishes,
Carole
