~Caregiver Designs~

~Some of my most recent Zentangle Inspired Art Caregiver Designs~

Caregiver's are a Beam of Light

Caregiver's Make the World Go 'Round

Caregiver's Sparkle

Psychadelic

The last design is one I started around the holidays last year and I put it away. I looked at it several times along the way and was inspired yesterday to complete it. Though it's not a Caregiver design persay, it is what I do to wind down at day's end some days, to find my peace and to relax. Find a creative outlet for yourself that you can do on your own. It will make a positive difference in your life. And by all means, have fun with  it and don't worry about perfection or the end result. Just have a good time and focus on what you're doing.

~Spring Ahead~

At last, the cold winter weather is leaving us and the warm, pleasant weather is emerging. It's so nice to open up the doors and windows to let some fresh air in while the sun is shining. I'm so thankful for the season change that allows us to be outdoors riding our bikes, taking a walk or a drive and visiting friends more often than when it's bitter cold.

Spring is a time for warm weather activities. It allows us to expand our horizons physically in a much broader way due to the weather change and daylight lasting longer. A surge of energy comes from the sunshine. Oh to see the wonder of flowers in bloom and leaves on the trees, so beautiful. Be sure to turn your clocks ahead this weekend.

If you're short on time to take a day off or go away for the weekend, find a few minutes to walk outside, take a short drive or stop at a friend's home on your way to or from work. The main goal is to make some time for yourself and do something outside. Sometimes it's fun to visit a greenhouse just to look at all the pretty flowers. That doesn't cost a dime. Sitting on a porch is a great way to get some fresh air and see the landscape.

The year is still young and there's still time to join a class in the morning or the evening, grow a garden, take up a hobby, create something from Michaels or learn Zentangle. Zentangle is my thing. I also like to practice my handwriting with my non-dominant hand for 20-30 minutes 3-4 times a week. When I first started doing this my handwriting looked like an old persons. I've practiced over the last six years and now it's very legible. This discipline is good for me. I have to write much slower than my dominant hand to be able to read it. I am also exercising my brain this way with an activity that stimulates different parts of it. It took a lot of practice for me to get to where I am today. It also took a lot of determination. The benefits I get from this are so great and it's something I do enjoy and can do by myself.

Whatever you do for yourself, make sure you enjoy it!

~Reflections~

My youngest son came to visit over the weekend. He moved out a year ago and he lives nearby. We are good friends and I appreciate his company always. I was thinking back to when we had a basketball hoop in the driveway and I would pull up a chair outside and watch him shoot hoops. I remember those days well. It was a time my four children were growing into young adults and I was enjoying life in a large way, like never before. All the work and toil it took from the time they were born to where they were then (and now) was showing up in the form of responsible people who were soon going to be completely independent. What an exciting and rewarding time to enjoy and appreciate what it took to be in this season of life.

That was then and this is now. Now is a still a great place in my midlife years. There are a million things I do love about it. Along with that, my life has changed monumentally in the last several years between job changes and becoming a Caregiver for my parents.

Many days move along just fine, others not so much. Life is full of ups and downs. To experience great happiness means one has the capacity to experience great sadness. Our lives are riddled with variations of great highs and great lows.

As you move forward in your week, I hope you feel a sense of peace and calm, despite your circumstances. I hope you are feeling like you are leading a purpose driven life, that you have a reason to get up in the morning and are making a difference in someone's life as well as your own.

One thing I know for sure, unless you put yourself out there, by putting your best foot forward, life can be pretty lukewarm and not very satisfying. Some days you may need to give yourself a pep talk or read a book about how to help yourself to get on track or have a positive attitude. Whatever you have to do to motivate yourself, do it. Whatever it takes, it's worth it!

My new book will be out very soon. I'll be posting about it all over our social media once it's live. It's a book of inspiration and artistry. I wrote it for you and I hope you love it.

~Our Brothers & Sisters, Here and Abroad~

I've been wanting to make a tangle that includes Carers in the design, our European, overseas sisters & brothers that are equal in job description to American Caregivers. This is my first attempt.Though my other tangles say Caregiver, that term is what I'm accustomed to and in my mind a generic term that's all inclusive to people who care for others. You can be sure I think of us as one global army of people that have the same end goal. Giving good care to those in our life who rely on us for their well being. I'm sure there are other names for Caregiver/Carer 'round the world too. This community is represented by 44 countries currently. This tangle is for all of us, near & far. You are my hero♡

If you have people in your life who would appreciate our Caregiver greeting cards & gift lines to celebrate and affirm Caregivers, please have them contact me by email: cbrecht4@gmail.com and refer them to www.tangledartboutique.com to the Caregiver Gallery.

Best wishes,

~A Field of Dreams~

I took a week off and went on a "real" vacation out west for the first time since 2009. It was a wonderful experience. I drew 3 tangles during the week and thought I'd share them with you here.

~A Field of Dreams~

~Caregiver's Rule~

~Tangle Shades~

I had fun making all of these tangles and learned a couple new patterns along the way. I felt relaxed and renewed in spirit by the end of the week. This week long vacation was long in coming and I'm grateful it came to fruition.

Jan and I just launched The Sandwich Woman You Tube channel and made our first live video that's only a few minutes long. It's a personal introduction for you to get to know us better. Take a look:

A few of my pictures of my visit to Mesa, AZ:

After being in warm climate, I can't wait for Spring to come...it's only week's out and it can't get here quick enough. There is nothing like a blue sky and sunshine to make your feel happy and alive! Winter is definitely not my favorite season.

My book will be published by the end of this month. I hope you enjoy it and I hope it brings you comfort, inspiration and peace of mind. Stay tuned for launch date. It's been exciting seeing my book come to fruition. It was just a mere idea in September, 2014 and now I'm about to see the fruits of my labor of love. It feels like I'm about to give birth! Jan and I are working on an Adult Coloring Book too that we are projecting to publish by the end of the year.

~ Coming Full Circle ~

I have been thinking about what life has been like after coming out of the devastating loss of a loved one. Feeling a sense of being grounded, connected, strong and stable comes in time after such a loss and it's a work in progress, reorganizing your life.

We make adjustments, go through transitions, tweak our lifestyle to find a new way of living. We begin a new season of life. I think mid-life crisis is an understatement in today's world.

Please follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Come visit our online store: Tangled Art Boutique, Zentangle Inspired Art. We aspire to inspire on social media. We hope you find peace and joy.

-----> A Caregiver's Creative Outlet <-------

As I continue my journey creating Zentangle Inspired Art, I was thinking of what life was like before I discovered this art form and how much it has changed my life.

I discovered this in June 2014, at the tail end of my Caregiver days with Mom. I spent years caring for her and had no creative outlet in place during that time. Mom was only a few months out from her death when this new interest/hobby/art form came into my life.

All those years I was so engrossed in her care, managing so much, I never stopped to think about how to help myself. I wasn't plugged into a community like this. I had become withdrawn, I experienced a strong sense of feeling alone and I was full of sorrow witnessing the changes that were occurring with her extreme memory loss and personality changes. It never dawned on me to think about art or anything at all to help myself find peace of mind and to help me deal with the level of stress I was living with. I was too busy doing the job of Caregiving to stop and think about myself.

Once I found Zentangle, I threw myself into this art form and took to it like a bee to honey! I couldn't get enough. It made me happy, made me feel at peace, it was something Jan and I learned together, so we had a blast tangling together (and still do). So many positive things came out of moving forward this way internally and externally. This is something I can do anytime of day or night, by myself. It's easy to carry around and pick it up and down all day long if I want. It brought a perspective to my life that was missing. That despite the horrible things that are happening around us to people we love, there is still beauty to see and behold

I encourage you to find a creative outlet. It could be anything. It could something as simple as going to Michael's and picking out a stencil to create imagery or a wreath to create for the Spring or a wooden shape to paint and hang. You can keep it for yourself or you can create it for someone else. The possibilities are endless. And even if you don't feel like doing a thing, I say ignore that feeling, don't let it rule you. Step out of your comfort zone and find something that gets your creative flow going and puts a smile on your face, even if you don't feel creative.

I hope you have a fun time, beginning to end. And when you finish one project, go get another to work on... even a sketch pad will do. Or take a class or get a do-it-yourself book or do oragami or paper quilling... whatever floats your boat. And if you have no idea, get a book from the library or go on Google and start searching for one idea to run with. Once you take the first step, everything else will follow.

Jan created the tangle I used in this blog. It's placed four different ways. A reminder to me: however I am viewing life, that is my view and I can change it any time and see something I didn't originally see. We have the capacity to look at an object or a scenario and have free will to interpret life any way we "feel" like it. Either our feelings are ruling our life or our voice of reason is in control. We can take our pick on how things will move along in our life, just from our thoughts and perception. It's a pretty amazing life when you think of it that way. Yes, we have circumstances beyond our control in life, but our perceptions will determine how we carry ourself, how we behave around others and how we do our job.

Self-care is paramount to your doing a good job during your Caregiver hours. You matter and make a difference in someone's life. Go make a difference in your own life, just for you, just because. You deserve peace and harmony in your life, no matter the circumstances.

Best Wishes,
Carole Brecht

~A New Beginning~

2016 is here!

I'm trying to wrap my head around that we're in a new year and well into the 21st century! A reminder how fast time flies.

There's something fresh about a new year. New dreams, new horizons and aspirations when the clean slate appears on January 1 of every year. We want to feel that each day is well lived, that we have purpose and that we're productive.

If you're caring for another, I hope you remember how important it is to keep your voice of reason intact, to put your best foot forward and to be glad you won't look back with any regret because you are the one who stepped up to the plate. You are responsible and caring, one who made a difference in your loved one's life.

Keep your calendar and notebook nearby daily, stay organized, make your daily list and, most importantly, be sure you're at the top of the list to take care of yourself.

Jan and I have created this social media platform with Facebook, Twitter & Instagram that has been gaining momentum globally. We're happy to see that The Sandwich Woman Community is a place for The Sandwich Generation to come together.

We also created an online store called Tangled Art Boutique bit.ly/TABoutique
In the store there are over 130 Zentangle Inspired Art designs we created. Each of us has our own gallery of designs and there is a Caregiver gallery too. The Caregiver line of designs is one way we love to support Caregivers with our art by affirming them with words in beautiful tangled designs. We'd like to share our store link with assisted living facilities, hospitals, doctor's offices, independent living facilities, hospice organizations and/or any business or person that has Caregivers, be it family or professional Caregivers, that are part of their lives. The Caregiver Gallery of gifts can be used for individuals as well as fundraisers, special events, contests, employee incentives, rewards or a special thank you or just merely for recognition and appreciation.

If you have people in your life who would appreciate our Caregiver greeting cards & giftlines to celebrate and affirm Caregivers, please have them contact me by email: cbrecht4@gmail.com

Best wishes for a life well-lived in 2016!
